Other states have used other products like this (Cincy uses Beet juice). Of course, some tree huggers are not happy with all the by-products. 
Another example of cities trying to find alternatives to the high cost of salt and the do-gooders saying no, no, no. And who do you think will be the first ones complaining about the slick conditions. Don't get me started..
