Get ready to pay more taxes!!

Post by Nervous Wreck »

With funding cuts to national defense and major entitlements politically unpalatable, the middle class inevitably will be asked to do more to help close the budget gap.

[Related content: taxes, budgeting, Medicare, spending, income tax]
By U.S. News & World Report
If you're hoping that tax hikes on the rich will solve America's debt crisis, you're overestimating the power of the wealthy.

President Barack Obama's budget proposal would raise taxes on upper-income earners by $969 billion over the next 10 years, yet the federal debt would continue to explode. To boost government revenues further, he'd raise an additional $122 billion from multinationals, $90 billion from banks, $37 billion from oil companies and $24 billion from hedge funds and private-equity companies.

All told, that's more than $1.2 trillion. And it would barely make a dent. We'd still have huge deficits, and the national debt would keep growing.

Just curious, what other way is there to pay for it?

Please don't say cut government Waste, because that "Waste" employs a LOT of people so it would be counter productive because you would put more people out of work, increase unemployment payouts reduce tax revenue therefore increasing debt!!!! Good ole Catch 22!

I don't like Taxes either but unless that Money tree that I planted starts growing I don't have another solution! :))

Yes cut it! Some of those employed are not productive. They can find productive work or ????

You don't just hand out money just to be handing it out do you? That is robbing Peter to pay Paul. Those people are already dependants so we just as well let them draw some unemployment until they can find something productive.

Geeez, think about it. How did the USA survive BEFORE these jobs that do nothing or produce something not needed were created?

If we are going to pay them out of our taxes give them some tools and make them fix the roads, bridges, etc. up. They could go bury powerlines with shovels... LMAO AT least it would be something we need. :p

My point is, everyone has an opinion (and you know what they say about opinions) about what is adding value and what isn't. Obviously there is going to be all kinds of crap going on that doesn't add any value as far as I am concerned but it adds value to someone.

We can't sit here in our own little world and pass judgement on what is valuable or meaningful. This country is full of people with different idea's, different beliefs and different needs, which is what makes this coountry great. I wouldn't want to live in a country where we didn't have that freedom or diversity.

It is REAL easy to sit here and say stop spending money on 'That' when we don't understand it! [-(

As far as I know the only secter growing jobs is the government. Expanding beaurocrisies that we don't need and that don't produce anything, for people that don't produce anything and are a drain on the system.
True Americans will come to their mother nations aid to see how they can help by producing something regardless of their disabilities, work for a living, somehow, someplace instead of sucking off the system looking for a free ride. I understand that there are those that can't and actually need our help! Help the helpless but be sure the ones that can get off their arse and produce , produce.
Stop penalizing the entrepeneurs, those who are out there trying to stimulate the economy by taking risks, by taxing and regulating them for starters. I know of what I speak, I am one of those small businesses taking a beating by an out of control government.
Let us take our country back and let the people get out of life what they put into it. I f you want to sit on your arse and do nothing but let the government care for you, go to a socialist country. Just my opinion! How's that for a second post?

When are we going get to stop paying for bank f-up's and stupid people???? OVER IT!!!! X( X( X(

In an effort to end the foreclosure crisis, the Obama administration has been trying to keep defaulting owners in their homes. Now it will take a new approach: paying some of them to leave.

This latest program, which will allow owners to sell for less than they owe and will give them a little cash to speed them on their way, is one of the administration’s most aggressive attempts to grapple with a problem that has defied solutions.

Under the new program, the servicing bank, as with all modifications, will get $1,000. Another $1,000 can go toward a second loan, if there is one. And for the first time the government would give money to the distressed homeowners themselves. They will get $1,500 in “relocation assistance.”

Short sales are “tailor-made for fraud,” said Mr. Lawler, a former executive at the mortgage finance company Fannie Mae.

Under the new federal program, a lender will use real estate agents to determine the value of a home and thus the minimum to accept. This figure will not be shared with the owner, but if an offer comes in that is equal to or higher than this amount, the lender must take it.

Big Shell Game

Diana Olick describes the situation perfectly in Mortgage Principal Writedown Won’t Save Housing.

And so it begins. Big gun lawmakers are making the move toward principal writedowns as the last resort to save the housing market.

The problem is prices. Home prices have fallen so far in the hardest hit areas, the areas where the bulk of the troubled loans are, that banks would have to write down principal 30 to 50 percent to put borrowers back in the green. Accounting rules require that banks write down the value of those loans on their books, and experts tell me that if banks really accounted for all the losses in the home loan market, they’d all be insolvent.

That’s why the Obama Administration has created this kind of shell game in the first place.

I stole that shell game idea from housing consultant Howard Glaser: “We’re spending tens of billions of dollars on a tax credit to get people to purchase homes, we’re spending federal money to keep them in their homes through the modification program, and now we’re going to pay them to move out of their homes. This is not a sustainable system for the housing market. It’s a shell game. Bernie Madoff could have created this system,” Glaser told me today.

Also Obama is proud to announce that 160,000 were created. Did anybody know that 48,000 of them are for census workers. Talk about a waste. This year the census will cost the tax payers over a Billion bucks. How does that set with you all? These positions are at double the minimum wage. The only good thing is if you turn down a job taking the census, you become ineligible for unemployment. Unfortunately the way our system is ran, these folks are taking the chance that it will never be found out. So they sit on their Arss and let others do it.

Obama Administration Eyes New Taxes, Fees for National Broadband Network

The Obama administration has a plan to expand online innovation and boost national public safety. And it wants to do it with more taxes and higher fees.
The massive national broadband plan the Federal Communications Commission released last month proposes creating a national framework for the taxation of digital goods and services and imposing a fee to establish and maintain a national public safety wireless broadband network.
clip:
"Americans already suffering from a recession prolonged by Mr. Obama's policies are being asked to concur that raising – yes, raising – taxes on a nationwide basis will somehow 'reduce uncertainty and remove one barrier to online entrepreneurship and investment,'" Timothy Lee, vice president of legal and public affairs for the Center for Individual Freedom, wrote in an opinion article published in the Washington Times.Lee said the FCC's agenda echoes Ronald Reagan's portrayal of government logic: "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it."

Nervous here is your next tax!

Would President Obama's Environmental Protection Agency really force Americans to pay a tax on "rainwater runoff" from homes and small businesses?
You bet they would. In fact, the EPA, under radical environmentalist Lisa Jackson, is proposing regulations to do just that.
Take a look at the EPA's own Federal Register filing, where the EPA generally describes the initiative it's proposing:
...requirements, including design or performance standards, for stormwater discharges from, at minimum, newly developed and redeveloped sites. EPA intends to propose regulatory options that would revise the NPDES regulations and establish a comprehensive program to address stormwater discharges from newly developed and redeveloped sites and to take final action no later than November 2012. (Source)
This is bureaucratic-speak for having the EPA force cities and counties to limit stormwater runoff to levels the EPA deems acceptable. Limiting "rainwater runoff" will mean forcing homeowners and businesses to pay new taxes in order to rein in rainwater, and that's no pun intended.
Think about just how big-government this is. A Washington, D.C. bureaucracy plans on forcing your local county or city to slap new taxes on you and me because this big-government bureaucracy wants to micro-manage rainwater across the entire country. Already, several counties and cities across the United States are moving to pass new taxes and fees in anticipation of the new EPA rules, including cities in states as disparate as Florida, Ohio and Kansas. For more details CLICK HERE
But really, this new EPA outrage is part of the pattern of the Obama Administration. Cap-and-trade is bogged down for now in the Senate (though they'll try to bring it back this year), so the liberals try to use an un-elected bureaucracy to pass their radical agenda. First, they declared that greenhouse gases are a "threat" to the environment and to health, so they're pushing new regulations that will in effect pass cap-and-trade without Congress having to act. Now, they're pushing this new "rainwater runoff" tax.
Just last month, Americans for Prosperity launched a national effort to stop this big government over-reach by the EPA. We're calling it the Regulation Reality Tour™, and we launched it in Arkansas with events across the state. Click HERE for photos. On April 19 we will begin the second leg of our tour in Colorado, with a third leg launching in Indiana and Ohio in early May. I hope to see you on the road as we take on Obama's EPA!
Our goal is simple: educate Americans on the threat to their freedoms and our economy from the EPA's arrogant, nutty agenda. The EPA's head, Lisa Jackson, attended the Climate Change conference in Copenhagen where she stated her intention to "transform" the way the American economy works using her bureaucracy. I was there in the room and heard her say it.
EPA is such a runaway bureaucracy at this point that only Congress can stop them. Thankfully, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski has a proposal to do just that. Murkowski has a resolution of disapproval—which would stop EPA in its tracks—that has been gathering steam, but we need your help to put her over the top. CLICK HERE to take action and tell your senators to support S.J.Res. 26. Make sure they know you will hold them accountable if they don't help pass Murkowski's resolution. Any lawmakers who won't stand up to stop the EPA are complicit in the onerous regulations they are trying to pass.
Spring is here. All things begin anew. And that includes renewing the fight for our freedoms.

Tim Phillips
PS: I just finished a father/son trip with my 16-year-old twin boys. It was great fun. On the airplane especially, my sons talked about what they wanted to do in the years to come. Hearing them talk about their futures, I was reminded of something Ronald Reagan said – freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. As usual, President Reagan was right. Let's make sure we keep doing our part to ensure that our generation passes on to our children and grandchildren the same freedoms we enjoyed.

Obama Economic Adviser Says U.S. Should Consider 'Value-Added Tax'

Acknowledging it would be a highly unpopular move, White House economic adviser Paul Volcker said Tuesday the United States should consider imposing a "value-added tax" similar to those charged in Europe to help get the deficit under control.

A value-added tax is a national sales tax that, like state and city sales taxes, would be collected by retailers.

Volcker, a former Federal Reserve chairman, told a New York panel on the global financial crisis that such a tax is "not as toxic an idea as it has been in the past."

"If, at the end of the day, we need to raise taxes, we should raise taxes," he said.

He also said that Congress might also have to consider new taxes on carbon and energy.

A White House official asked for comment, said, "The president has passed historic tax cuts for middle-class families and continues to push for more tax cuts. The president is not proposing to cut the deficit at the expense of middle-class families."

The value-added tax suggestion was immediately met with outrage by Republicans.

"It shouldn't surprise anyone that the Obama White House would advocate a European-style tax to help finance their European-style government health-care plan," said Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the National Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee.

Pretty d@mn soon I'll have to pay THEM to work!!! X( X( X(

Special Session Over: Lawmakers Pass Budget With Taxes On Beer, Pop, Gum, Candy And Bottled Water.

Lawmakers approved a tax package that increases taxes on bottled water, soda, candy and mass-produced beer.
The package will also force service businesses to pay a temporary surcharge on their business taxes.

Here's what this means for you:

Higher taxes on tobacco products, bottled water, pop, candy, gum and mass-produced beer, with the beer, pop and water taxes are slated as temporary and would expire in mid-2013.

The higher beer tax of 50 cents per gallon -- a 28 cent-increase on a six-pack -- would bring in $59 million. Microbrews would be exempt.

The tax on soda bottlers would add 2 cents to every 12-ounce container, with bottlers under $10 million in volume exempt. That raises nearly $34 million.

Candy and gum would be subject to the state's 6.5 percent sales tax. That would raise nearly $31 million.

Bottled water would be subject to the sales tax, bringing in nearly $33 million.

When will enough be enough? Taxation is really getting out of hand the way I see it!! X( X(

I hope this is not true but considering what the Democrats have done since gaining power it wouldn't surprise me.

Another Economy and Middle Class Killer in the A dministration’s destruction plan.
Don't want to be bothered with "Political stuff?" You'd better read this one. It will come as a huge shock to you if you aren't informed as to what Obama is up to, and it has already passed one hurdle. It will take very little now to put it into actual law!! YOU'D BETTER W A KE UP A MERIC A !!!!
So you think you live in a free country.
Boy have you got a surprise coming.
A License Required for your HOUSE?
If you own your home you really need to check this out. A t the end of this email is the Google link to verify. If the country thinks the housing market is depressed now, wait until everyone sees this. No one will be buying homes in the future.
We encourage you to read the provisions of the Cap and Trade Bill that has passed the House of Representatives and are being considered by the Senate. We are ready to join the next march on Washington ! This Congress and their "experts" are truly out to destroy the middle class of the U.S. A .
A License will be required for your house...no longer just for cars and mobile homes....Thinking about selling your house? Take a look at H.R. 2454 (Cap and Trade bill). This is unbelievable! Home owners take note and tell your friends and relatives who are home owners!
Beginning one year after enactment of the Cap and Trade A ct, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with the energy and water efficiency standards of this "Cap & Trade" bill, passed by the House of Representatives. If it is also passed by the Senate, it will be the largest tax increase any of us has ever experienced.
The Congressional Budget Office (supposedly non-partisan) estimates that in just a few years the average cost to every family of four will be $6,800 per year. No one is excluded. However, once the lower classes feel the pinch in their wallets, you can be sure that these voters will get a tax refund (even if they pay no taxes at all) to offset this new cost. Thus, you Mr. A nd Mrs. Middle Class have to pay even more since additional tax dollars will be needed to bail out everyone else..
But wait. This awful bill (that no one in Congress has actually read) has many more surprises in it. Probably the worst one is this: A year from now you won't be able to sell your house without some bureaucrat's OK. Yes, you read that right.
The caveat (there always is a caveat) is that if you have enough money to make required major upgrades to your home, then you can sell it. But, if not, then forget it. Even pre-fabricated homes ("mobile homes") are included. In effect, this bill prevents you from selling your home without the permission of the EP A administrator.
To get this permission, you will have to have the energy efficiency of your home measured. Then the government will tell you what your new energy efficiency requirement is and you will be required to make modifications to your home under the retrofit provisions of this A ct, to comply with the new energy and water efficiency requirements.
Then you will have to get your home measured again and get a license (called a "label" in the A ct) that must be posted on your property to show what your efficiency rating is; sort of like the Energy Star efficiency rating label on your refrigerator or air conditioner. If you don't get a high enough rating, you can't sell.
And, the EP A administrator is authorized to raise the standards every year, even above the automatic energy efficiency increases built into the A ct. The EP A administrator, appointed by the President, will run the Cap & Trade program ( A K A the " A merican Clean Energy and Security A ct of 2009") and is authorized to make any future changes to the regulations and standards he/she alone determines to be in the government's best interest. Requirements are set low initially so the bill will pass Congress. Then the A dministrator can set new standards every year.
The A ct itself contains annual required increases in energy efficiency for private and commercial residences and buildings. However, the EP A administrator can set higher standards at any time. Sect. 202 - Building Retrofit Program mandates a national retrofit program to increase the energy efficiency of all existing homes across A merica .
Beginning one year after enactment of the A ct, you won't be able to sell your home unless you retrofit it to comply with its energy and water efficiency standards. You had better sell soon, because the standards will be raised each year and will be really hard (expen$ive) to meet in a few years. Oh, goody!
The A ct allows the government to give you a grant of several thousand dollars to comply with the retrofit program requirements IF you meet certain energy efficiency levels. But, wait, the State can set additional requirements on who qualifies to receive the grants. You should expect requirements such as "can't have an income of more than $50K per year", "home selling price can't be more than $125K", or anything else to target the upper middle class (that includes YOU) and prevent you from qualifying for the grants.
Most of us won't get a dime and will have to pay the entire cost of the retrofit out of our own pockets. More transfer of wealth, more "change you can believe in." Sect. 204 - Building Energy Performance Labeling Program establishes a labeling program that for each individual residence will identify the achieved energy efficiency performance for "at least 90 percent of the residential market within 5 years after the date of the enactment of this A ct."
This means that within 5 years 90% of all residential homes in the U.S. must be measured and labeled. The EP A administrator will get $50M each year to enforce the labeling program. The Secretary of the Department of Energy will get an additional $20M each year to help the EP A . Some of this money will, of course, be spent on coming up with tougher standards each year...
Oh, the label will be like a license for your car. You will be required to post the label in a conspicuous location in your home and will not be allowed to sell your home without having this label. A nd, just like your car license, you will probably be required to get a new label every so often - maybe every year.
But, the government estimates the cost of measuring the energy efficiency of your home should only cost about $200 each time. Remember what they said about the auto smog inspections when they first started: that in California ? It would only cost $15. That was when the program started. Now the cost is about $50 for the inspection and certificate.
Expect the same from the home labeling program. Sect. 304 - Greater Energy Efficiency in Building Codes establishes new energy efficiency guidelines for the National Building Code and mandates at 304(d) that one year after enactment of this A ct, all state and local jurisdictions must adopt the National Building Code energy efficiency provisions or must obtain a certification from the federal government that their state and/or local codes have been brought into full compliance with the National Building Code energy efficiency standards.

about forgiving mortgage balances

Post by WhiteNights »

Bailing someone out of some of their mortgage balance because they owe more than it is worth is a rip off to those of is that have worked our butts off to pay our home off!

I paid mine off for more than it is now worth, where is my money??? Just because I was smart enough to buy what I could afford, make payments and work the princple down to 0 why should I be penalized?

I say that if the Govt is going to let people off the hook on the mortgage for the lost value of their homes, then they should pay me back my lost value too. If not then anyone that sells their home for a profit should have to pay back the govt towards the 'forgiven' amount of the original mortgage. The govt should hold a lien basically and not let them make money when housing values go back up.

My taxes should not go to pay for those who made a bad financial decsion. Of course I realize that there are many honest hardworking people who are truely hurt by this but ow many should never have bought a home in the first place? It is many of them that just want to walk away from the mortgage and leave us to pay for it.

I wish I was retired already and living on a beach somewhere in paradise :)

Rant over.

I am still claiming ignorance to all of the "Cap & Trade" stuff. :-\ I'm hesitant to learn about it... it's all depressing... :(
