American Boots and Shoes

Post by E_ »

It is hard to go to stores and find made in the USA boots anymore. I have finally found a website that list the US made boots. All of them that I can tell are totally USA boots except for the Wolverine ones and they are assembled in the US but I am guessing with material from other places.

http://www.americanmadeworkboots.com/index.html

I just ordered a pair of the 6" Justin Boots for a decent price and no shipping.

Now hopefully all is legit and they will arrive in a week or so...

:ymapplause: Kudos to you E! I too try to buy American and have been putting things back that say made in China (just doin without). Have you seen or heard of all of the plant closings and jobs laid off in China? It's real hard to hear anything about it on the news, saw a special about it, pretty interesting. They'll probably be wanting their money back now... :))

Well my boots came in last night. I LOVE THEM. They are very good quality and I wore them to work today. Here are some pics I took of my USA made boots last night. Sorry the lighting was not very good.

Come on guys start new threads for some other places you have found that support American products. :ymcowboy: :ymcowboy:

Just a FYI, the Justin boots I bought were great quality and even though I wear them on the farm and doing other outdoor activites they still clean/shine up good enough to wear to work on Monday.

Time for a new pair, the ones I got are still in GREAT shape but too ugly for work since I use them on the farm everyone once and a while etc.

Anyone got any good leads on USA made boots?

I was thinking of these:
http://www.americanmadeworkboots.com/wolverine3159.html

I really liked the Justin boots but they do not make them in EEE width and this last pair was not too comfortable for a long time so I would like to start off comfortable...

E go here for a some styles that are made in the USA. http://workingperson.com/made-in-the-usa.php
Used to be in retail many years ago and Red Wing boots have an excellent reputation with miners and hard workin folks. They apparently make some cheaper styles overseas but the better quality styles are still made here. Even have some nice motorcycle boots. :)

I know some of us have discussed New Balance before. here is a link from a friend.
I know you don’t wear athletic shoes but this might be something you’d want to pass on. I was in need of a new set of shoes and a former coworker of mine that worked at the New Balance store in college mentioned one time that certain shoes were still made in the US. Not all of them, but most that are model 7xx and up. The ones I bought(760’s I believe) where actually cheaper and a better shoe than most of their sweatshop competition.

PS, I still never have purchased a replacement boot but this is what I am thinking about getting. I just wonder if they will be too hot in the summer... :-s
http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots/arctic/25203
EDITED by E_HILLMAN - I just found out that ONLY the Chippewa Boots that say Handcrafted in the USA are American made.

I sent them an e-mail asking about those boots in the summer. If not here are some others I might consider
http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots//72129 NOT made in USA
http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots/injected/24651 NOT made in USA
http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots/utility/72250 NOT made in USA

They have other boots not listed as "artic" with the exact same thinsulate specs etc.
I figured I would buy them using the link Waterwings left from the workingpersonstore
even have $20 off if I buy today and free shipping.
http://workingperson.com/chippewa-boots ... 51193.html

I did get a e-mail back from RedWing Boots. Here is a link that allows you to filter their boots by the country they are made in
http://www.redwingsafety.com/safety-boo ... ade-in-usa

With the new information on Chippewa Now my list has been changed to these:
http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots/country/25231
http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots/super_logger/25407
http://www.chippewaboots.com/boots/arctic/25203 (but I would rather have steel toe, nice to have when they get retired to farm use)

Ok, this is what I am going to try: (I would have gotten the same Justin Boot ones I had but they do not come in EEE size and they were a bit tight for a month or so)
http://workingperson.com/work-one-boots ... 68397.html
Surfed the internet and found a discount code "TY10" to enter that got me $14.60 off on them.
Image

I have never heard of these but I figured why not give them a try... They have vibram soles which is always a plus in my book.
Product Name Price Qty Subtotal
Subtotal $145.95
Discount (TY10) -$14.60
Shipping & Handling (Free Shipping - Free Shipping (7 to 14 business days)) $0.00
Grand Total $131.35
Work One Boots: Steel Toe I-Met Heat-Resistant Work Boots I704
Footwear Size
11EEE $145.95 1 $145.95
And since I did not spend the $190 on the Chippewa boots I went ahead and got some of these too. (which are supposed to be made in the USA per the link from above earlier today.)

I have a pair of these and have been quite happy with them. They're still made by the Chippewa Factory in Carthage, Missouri.

Those are nice but I worry about just getting a EE, generally I get a 11 EEE. I got a EE in the Justin boots I have and they were a bit tight for several months.

They have some really nice boots but I have yet to find one with the following:

EEE width, 6" max height, NO insulation, steel toe, made in USA, sole with good tread (really like the logger tread).
then other items I would like are water proof (chipatek), and vibram soles.

The ones made in the USA do not have EEE unless they are insulated... lol I really wonder if 400 grams of Thinsulate would really be too much in the summer or not. I am tempted to buy some with it and try it out. That is a fairly small amount of thinsulate my hunting boots have around 3,000 grams of thinsulate for example.

I was tempted last night to buy one of the 9" boots that had ALL of the above but a 9" boot is quite a lot to lace up and takes a loooong time to break in etc.

LOL, I get boots like that so when I "retire" them to the farm they are good sturdy shoes. They look pretty comfortable to me but I sure will HATE all those laces. Those are way taller than I like my shoes to be but I was stuck on finding boots with EEE width, USA made, and steel toe.

Even though they are ugly I am thinking about these as well.. lol http://www.kbfootwear.com/DisplayStyle. ... le_ID=2565 I think under a pants leg they will still look ok and are a little more "bootish" for the days I ride the bike.

I had to send back the Air Lite Chukkas... :( They looked to be made well BUT the size 11 EEE I ordered was WAAAYYY longer than any of my size 11 shoes and the EEE was tighter than a D... :( I'm searching again and for now wearing a 15 year old pair of Dexters that I maybe wore 5 times in that amount of time. lol They don't say where they are made but I bet here that long ago. lol

I'd rather have these http://workingperson.com/work-one-boots ... 68397.html but I don't know if I can keep getting away with work boots for business boots. :-/

Batavia shoemaker P.W. Minor, which was on the verge of shutting down last July, is pledging to add 100 new jobs to its Genesee County factory by bringing back production work now done in China.

The company is planning to invest $7.35 million in its factory on Treadeasy Drive in Batavia Industrial Park to increase its automation and help it narrow the cost gap between Batavia and China.

The state, which already promised the company $449,505 in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits last year when new owners took over and kept the business open, has agreed to provide an additional $1.75 million in Excelsior tax credits if the company meets its employment and investment targets.

“Bringing our production back to New York is our priority,” said Peter H. Zeliff, a former developer from Oakfield who teamed with Andrew J. Young, a Batavia real estate entrepreneur, to buy the company last summer and avert a shutdown at an iconic business whose workforce had dwindled to about 50 people.

The company joins a growing trend among American manufacturers that are “insourcing” work that previously had been done overseas. State officials said P.W. Minor would not have been able to end its Chinese production and bring the work back to Batavia without the state tax credits.

P.W. Minor is one of just a few remaining U.S. shoe manufacturers and the oldest company in Genesee County, with roots dating from 1867, when the firm was founded by two brothers not long after they returned home from the Civil War.
