Marina/Ramp: Currently mostly out of Jamestown but spend a lot of time at the other Marinas.

Pre2012-Conley Bottom Mostly, Waitsboro, Alligator I&II ramps, Leesford, Pulaski County Park (when it has water), Grider, State Dock (via boat), and Jamestown are a few places you might find me.

Hello,

STA-BIL
works perfectly fine with E10
[10% ethanol] and all other oxygenated gas blends in the US
market. Here in
Chicago, E10 has been our ONLY option for gas
for well over a
decade, and it still works
just fine. I would
appreciate if you would pass this message along to your
friends so they can have
the proper facts about E10
storage.

New
E10 users have to make
several changes to how they store their gas, more about the
procedure than the
additives used. Ethanol in E10 absorbs moisture from the
empty space/air in gas
tanks and this turns to water in the gasoline, water is
heavier than gas and the
ethanol/water combination sinks to the bottom causing what
is called
"phase-separation", this causes running and
corrosion problems. Ethanol also
works as a type of fuel cleaner and, in older boats, can
loosen deposits from
the fuel system that end up in fuel filters, sometimes
clogging
them.

Phase-Separation;
The
best solution for this is
to always keep your gas tanks at 95% capacity (allow some
room for fuel to
expand), this will minimize the amount of moisture that can
be absorbed.
STA-BIL's built in premium water remover and corrosion
inhibitors should
effectively deal with any condensation build
up.

Deposits getting
lose;
Unfortunately, no additive will stop
this, however, this is only a one-time thing as after the
fuel system is clean,
the problem will never show up again. Only the older fuel
systems that never get
cleaned should notice this side effect the first time they
introduce ethanol to
the system.

A
serious issue about thick gelling in the
fuel is completely user-error. In places that switched from
MTBE [old oxygenate]
to E10 gas blends, one
MUST first run the MTBE gas blend
completely dry before
introducing ethanol to the system. The ethanol/MTBE mixture
will create thick
gelling that can seize a fuel delivery system.
With E10 in
marine environments, we do
recommend using STA-BIL year-round, not just during
storage, to keep the fuel
systems free of water and corrosion.
I am
attaching a couple articles from
BoatU.S. and other publications providing further insight
and tips regarding E10
gas blends. Please feel free to shoot back any questions
you may still
have.

Regards,
Marcel
