FRANKFORT (AP) - State officials are searching for the cause of a fish kill at Cave Run Lake.

A statement from Kentucky Fish and Wildlife says thousands of white bass were affected in the 8,270-acre lake near Morehead. Dr. Bob Durborow, an aquaculture extension specialist at Kentucky State University, says his inspection of some fish found bacterial infections but he didn't think that was the primary cause of the kill.

Durborow sent samples for additional testing and said results weren't expected until late summer.

Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources assistant director Gerry Buynak said anglers first reported seeing thousands of dead and struggling white bass during the weekend of June 8.

Biologists restocked the lake with white bass on June 13.
