Traveling I75 around Lexington, KY today?

Post by E_ »

Hope no one got caught in the flustercluck. From what I hear north bouth is flowing a little again and southbound is still having backups. Over 30 accidents between the northern and southern split this afternoon. :-o

If someone pees or spits on the road in Lex EVERYONE wrecks. :-w

For me it started on Newtown on my normal route home and I did not know why it was sooo backed up so I did a U turn and got on I75 north

Then as soon as I got on I75 North I see it is down to one lane in the Emergency lane.

As you can see the southbound traffic is at a standstill as well.
I got lucky, two people let me over as soon as I got off the on ramp and I made it through there in about 2 minutes. People south of me and those that were north heading south did not fare so well. Wife is sitting on Newtown Pike right now because of the overflow onto it.

Here is a Pic from the 5:30 WKYT news I saw when I got home

Apparently at one point there were 30 crashes between the northern and southern 64 75 split. It's even causing backups on winchester road not to mention newtown pike.

Just now on the 6PM Lex18 news they just said both north and south I75 seem to be flowing as they should be...

An official with the Lexington Fire Department said that the mess on I-75 Friday afternoon in Lexington began with an accident involving a overturned car and it led to chain-reaction wrecks that involved a total of 46 vehicles.

The first accident happened on northbound I-75 at about 2:10 p.m. After that, a total of eight other accidents were reported, including one with a Lexington Fire truck that injured a firefighter. That firefighter was taken to the hospital with leg injuries.

In all, officials say 14 people were transported to hospitals with non life-threatening injuries. They said all of the accidents happened between mile markers 112-116.

Officials expect all lanes of both northbound and southbound I-75 were re-opened by early evening, but that one of the vehicles involved, a semi, had spilled fuel, and there would still be slowdowns in the area of that accident due to cleanup efforts for the spill.

Traffic on Interstate 75 is back open after it was tied up for hours from a series of crashes in Lexington.

The crashes happened around 2 p.m. Friday between the southern split (mile marker 111) to the northern split (mile marker 118.)

Police tell us at least 40 crashes have been reported in that stretch of I-75.

Emergency crews tell us at least 20 people have been injured, and transported to hospitals.

John Welsh and his family were caught in the middle of a chain reaction wreck involving three tractor trailers and five or six other cars.
Welsh was towing his boat back home to the Cincinnati area after several days on the lake. He says he saw traffic coming to a stop ahead, and seconds later, he was struck by two tractor trailers.

"Glad I had the boat. If I hadn't had the boat, it could've been the truck and our family. Hey, we're all good. We're healthy," said Welsh.
