A Friday night joy ride left a Bronston couple all wet after their truck landed in Lake Cumberland off the old Waitsboro Road dock.
Brian Lawson, 41, and Allesha Knox, 30, both of Bronston and wanted on outstanding warrants, were traveling in a 1991 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck when they attempted to elude Wayne County authorities between 8:30 and 9 p.m. Friday.
Wayne County Deputy Sheriff Jerry Coffey pursued the vehicle across KY 90 into Pulaski County. By then 5th District Constable Mike Wallace had responded and laid out spike strips on the highway.
After hitting the strips, Lawson veered onto Old Hwy. 90 and then down old Waitsboro Road, which dead ends into Lake Cumberland.
Lawson and Knox were able to escape the truck through open windows. They were taken into custody and lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
According to the jail, Lawson was lodged under a $10,000 cash bond for charges of first-degree Fleeing and Evading Police, first-degree Wanton Endangerment, and Reckless Driving. His outstanding warrants included a first-degree Burglary charge from Laurel County, alcohol intoxication in Clinton County and two Pulaski County bench warrants for failure to appear in court.
Knox was lodged without bond for a probation violation as well as Hardin County theft charges and a first-degree Burglary warrant from Laurel County.
On their first attempt, the Somerset-Pulaski County Rescue Squad located the truck in about 20 feet of water off the dock at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Diver Dan Karriker hooked the vehicle, which was then pulled from the water by Sears Towing. Yanders Towing was also on hand with a rollback to transport the vehicle.
“We were lucky,” Constable Wallace said of how quickly the truck was retrieved.
