2014 Debris Report

Post by E_ »

Well 5-17-2014 the Lake from JRM to Grider Hill was in pretty good shape. Just a few big ones here and there that you could see and avoid even on plane.

76 Falls was looking good and plenty of room a the falls and around the bends for the party to return. (I forgot how big it was there with the water up) AND you have more of a flow of water coming through unlike Harmon creek where it is a bit more stale....)

5-18-2014 the monsters and debris came out and seemed to congregate just below Lure Lodge at the entrance to the harbor.

(Whats your report?)

Abstract: The Daniel Boone Natural Forest System including Lake Cumberland, Cumberland River, and Cumberland Falls in the Sate of Kentucky is a major wildlife habitat and outdoor recreation area. This natural resource and scenic area was being impacted by the accumulation of unsightly trash and debris. The trash and debris posed an adverse environmental and public safety impact affecting navigation, fishing, swimming and other enjoyment of the river system. Innovative civil engineering design and construction was implemented to capture the trash and debris upstream in the Cumberland River and prevent its entrance into Lake Cumberland. The rack system was designed using 3-D Computer Modeling to optimize the site layout. Design considerations also addressed operational requirements, public concerns, environmental impacts, navigation and boating concerns, and esthetic issues. Special considerations taken during construction addressed environmental concerns associated with preservation of wetland habitat, endangered species, and river water quality. Impact on local residences and public facilities also were addressed.

Took HB down for fuel and pump out. 2 slips at fuel pier were blocked by big logs. Went out today on toon and big - medium - small wood everywhere from SD to Wolf Creek Marina. Lots of human trash mixed in also.
