Lake Level Fluctuation warning - BE AWARE!!!!!(Land Hazards)

Post by E_ »

Land Hazards aka Water Hazards

Ok all,

With the accident reports from this past weekend, one thing that came to mind is now that we are back to normal lake operation some may not be aware of how the lake may start the season at 723 but then by mid season by more near 710 and then go down to 700 or even 690 into the winter.

This means right about this time of year spots that were 10' under water like the cut through on the way to 76 falls, part of the island spots north east of the mouth of Beaver/Otter creek, etc. are either now above water OR dangerously just inches below the surface.

BE Vigilant when out at night and stay away from these types of areas. Be aware also when taking our normal routes.

Areas I can think of that as the lake drops you can find land where it previously was not showing:

Cut through at 76 Falls - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

76 falls - if you jumped earlier in the year (DANGEROUS) please as the level drops don't! its not that deep there!
https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Spot near the dam - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Area up Beaver Creek - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0(also across the creek is another spot)

Spot at mouth of Beaver/Otter 36°53'40.4"N 85°02'27.8"W - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Low Gap - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Lilly Creek Island 1 36.958984, -85.029270 - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Lilly Creek Island 2 36.968564, -85.034050 https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Lilly Creek Peninsula 36.974889, -85.033033 https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Caney/Wolf Creek - I think there might be a high spot here when the water drops - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Island in Wolf Creek 36°56'57.5"N 84°58'53.4"W - the island gets bigger - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Area behind/across from Alligator II *( 36°59'22.8"N 84°55'23.0"W ) gets MUCH more shallow and from there on up the creek more hazards - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Entrance to Harmon Creek (pokes out a lil more) https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Camp Earl Wallace 36°56'54.0"N 84°56'47.6"W - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0...yep right about Poker Run this one can start collecting boats.

Around the bend from Conley (aka Peter Point lol) aka Daytona Beach can start getting more shallow - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

First Bend Across from Conley gets more shallow be careful hugging corner - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Island up white oak Creek - you may NOT be able to drive around it anymore https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Rock up white oak creek at Laurel Fork - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Needle Point up Fishing Creek grows - https://www.google.com/maps/place/37%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Area behind Island at Leesford - shallow - https://www.google.com/maps/place/37%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Island at Pulaski County Park/Fishing Creek Rec Area, might no longer be a island. https://www.google.com/maps/place/37%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Things get MUCH more shallow or dry up near the causeway at Burnside Island - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Ic-10 ... 51630d8108

SouthFork Party Cove could start drying up - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Boulders start to appear up the South Fork - https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2 ... !1s0x0:0x0

Most creeks starting getting more narrow and shorter especially on the north side of the lake and the east end.

Trees that grew during the draw down that were further under water could now be pongee sticks or prop eaters.

Be safe and have fun. Feel free to share other later into the season hazards...
