It will be interesting to see how well the "drywall" inside walls hold up in the Lake's humid atmosphere. I suspect that the manufacturer will "suggest" that the owner never open a window or door and run the HVAC all the time. Other than the inside materials, the layout looks pretty much like any other houseboat on the lake.
I still don't see the point of this.

The drywall has been holding up quite well in all of our models. Our first Harbor Cottage, built in 2011, has experienced no cracking, mold or mildew issues to date - something we are very proud of! Further, for any buyer that is particularly concerned we could build them an entire boat made out of "green board" which is a premium drywall specifically engineered to resist mold and mildew. This green board is already used in our bathrooms and our kitchen, but we could very easily accommodate a request to install moisture resistant sheet rock in the entire boat.

Many folks who own old school or traditional houseboats have had questions about using drywall in a boat, simply because it is something they are unfamiliar with, and for those people we also provide an option to install paneling (instead of drywall) throughout the entire structure. In this way we offer the best of both worlds; we can build a boat with the exact same specs as a traditional houseboat, or we can build a much more modern, customizable, and better insulated boat.

A traditional houseboat has single pane windows, and running the HVAC all the time can result in the windows beginning to "sweat" with condensation. On the contrary, we encourage our Harbor Cottage customers to open their windows whenever they please (double pane, double hung, vinyl windows with LowE and argon glass for high energy efficiency) and run their central HVAC systems as little or as long as they'd like (our HVAC systems are 2 ton - 3 ton heat pumps with a 16 SEER energy efficiency rating, one of the highest on the market). And again, one of the great benefits of owning a Harbor Cottage is the customizability - we can certainly install single pane windows and any HVAC systems that our customers prefer!

The primary point in creating our Harbor Cottage vision was to bring down the price so that house boating is more affordable to a larger number of people, which we have succeeded in doing. We can build a Harbor Cottage to look like a traditional, old school houseboat - we just think ours look a lot better!

Customize the look (interior, exterior) and floorplan any way you like and we will deliver it to any lake in the country in as little as 90 days!
